A RINO, through and through, some still say that Cochran was only able to win re-election by deceiving Democrats into voting for him in the 2014 GOP Primary. Whether or not it’s true (and it may very well be true), the fact that Cochran’s surrogates engaged in dirty tricks is undeniable. Cochran also made headlines by denying allegations that he had an affair with a long-time aide and then married that aide soon after issuing the denials.
Thad Cochran is the senior United States Senator from Mississippi, and currently is the chairman of the United States Senate Committee on Appropriations.
Cochran has served in the United States Senate since December 27, 1978. Before he was a Senator, he was a member of the United States House of Representatives, from January 3, 1973 through December 27, 1978.
Cochran was preceded in the United States Senate by James Eastland, a member of the Democratic party who held the office for 35 years, from January 3, 1943, to December 27, 1978.
Cochran’s mother was a teacher, and his father was the school principal. He attended Byram High School, and graduated as Valedictorian.
He earned a degree Psychology at the University of Mississippi and graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1965. He actively practiced law for 7 years and he also worked as a lifeguard and served in the United States Navy.
Cochran is a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.
Thad Cochran was married to Rose Clayton. They had two children. Rose Cochran passed away in 2014. Cochran later married his long-time aide Kay Webber on May 23, 2015.
